Generations of Godly Moms

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.  When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness” Proverbs 31:25-26.  We celebrated Mother’s Day at MVF on Sunday and were blessed with mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and great-great-grandmothers gathered together to worship the Lord.  As some of the fathers distributed long-stemmed roses, Pastor Groff gave a blessing and prayer.  He shared about some of the children in Sunday School that day telling how they would rather have time with their moms than toys.  Love shown with time and presence.  Anita graced us all with wise words from God’s word—she was a Proverbs woman giving instruction with kindness.  Preaching from the book of Ruth (as read by daughters Becky and Victoria), she challenged us to have faith, pray, connect with others, and have victory through Jesus.  As I think about Mother’s Day, three words come to mind regarding these generations of moms—honor, responsibility and legacy.  As children (of all ages) we honor our mothers and receive God’s blessing for doing so—Jesus even put this on the short list!  Mothers (physical and spiritual) carry great responsibility for leading the generations following them.  Mothers’ responsibility is to believe in Christ and live their lives as examples of being Spirit-filled obedient disciples.  And finally, as one generation gives way to the next, whether its mothers or great-great-grandmothers, all have a legacy to leave, a legacy of being good and faithful servants.  What joy when the daughters say like Ruth to Naomi, “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
